Along with Having My Baby and Sometimes When We Touch (The Honesty’s Too Much), Paul Davis’ I Go Crazy is one of those New Male Anthems of the 70s. While the sisters were belting out I Will Survive and I Am Woman (Hear Me Roar), the men were crooning contemplative, low-key ballads examining the masculine paradox: while physically strong, they were somehow too weak to Love. Well, let’s thank heavens this is one of those cultural phases that have gladly passed.

This song, however, does encapsulate today’s mood. The male and the female principles just can’t seem to understand each other today, leaving a rather depressive mood. If you have to go on a date, try to keep things light and not jump on the other party for taking things out of context. Give your partner a pass if they seem to channeling their inner-Mars or -Venus today. Just like the New Males of the 70s, this too shall pass.

I also chose this track because it was announced today that Paul Davis crossed on over and into the light. Anyone who writes a song that defines an era of pop culture has my infinite respect. cnn
