Barbara Streisand has Mercury conjunct the Sun in her first house. Taurus rules the voice, and while she has a natural talent, her Mercury shows she understands the technical aspects of singing, as well.

This tendency is perfectly high-lighted in the clip below from the Streisand-produced vehicle A Star is Born. The director actually wrote a scathing article about the experience in New York magazine, portraying her as an egocentric control-freak. Needless to say, he didn’t work much after that.

Streisand hated lip-synching in films and she preferred that the songs where she sings were to be recorded live during filming. This is totally cool, except for the fact one of these was for the “duet” of Evergreen. I totally feel sorry for poor Kris Kristofferson, her co-star, who was forced to sing this amazingly difficult song live with Barbra Streisand, of all people. But Babs got her way. I mean he admirably manages to squeak out a few lines, but still. While Streisand’s take is absolutely flawless and amazing, I still can’t help thinking, poor Kris.
