Eve Plumb was the child star of this 60s groovelicious tv show about a woman with 3 daughters who married a man with three sons and all the resulting hijinx that ensued.
“Jan” was the middle child who had major self-esteem issues and by today’s standards would most likely be heavily medicated on those trendy children’s pharmaceuticals. Back in the day, however, she could make up fake boyfriends (including going through the trouble to organise fake calls and letters from her imaginary beloveds) and try to constantly reinvent herself into the “new Jan Brady” by wearing wigs and the like.
The astrology comes into play by way of trivia. Casting directors probably don’t do it consciously, but if you look at the astrological make-up of your favorite shows and movies, you will find a lot of astrological synastry within the casts of major successes. The Brady Bunch, in fact, was largely comprised of energetic, outgoing fire and air signs, which typically complement and feed off each other. The creator of the show, however, wanted the middle children to not fit in completely, to be on a slightly different dynamic than the other actors. In fact, without knowing it, they cast according to the principles of astrological sun-sign compatibility as the two middle children were an earth and a water sign, making them a bit more introspective and low-key than the others. Jan’s earthiness comes through in her character, which just gets bulldozed over by the manic zaniness of her air and fire colleagues.
