Hazel O’Connor is the star of the 80s cult film Breaking Glass, whose music represents the transition point from the anger of punk to the electronic melodies of new wave, melding these two periods into a brilliant whole.

You can see these tendencies in her chart. Her Uranus/Jupiter conjunction shows someone who is on the cutting-edge of the implementation of new technology. Her synth sounds were really ground-breaking at the time. This Uranus/Jupiter conjunction forms a t-square with Neptune and Venus infusing her art with a certain surreal anarchy.

The aspect that ties her chart together is her Mars/Mercury conjunction in intellectually-with-it Gemini. This gives her a great deal of anger and aggression, especially in being able to see society and “the game” for what it is. This conjunction, however, forms really harmonious aspects with both her Venus as well as her Uranus and Jupiter, pulling the entire chart together and forging a strong melodic line and bittersweet feeling within the anarchy.

Here are two music clips from Breaking Glass. The film is about the rise of a pop-star who starts off singing against the machine (above), and then ultimately becomes part of it (below).
