Electionwatch : New Moons and New Beginnings : Bye Bye Baby Boomers
Cats: electionwatch|The true shift in the American elections, is not that it is the first African-American presidential nominee, or the farthest a woman has ever got, it’s the huge generational shift that is taking place. The post-Baby Boom generation grew up in a non-sexist, non-racist world and it’s about time they take the stage.
In real life, what we refer to as Boomers, Gen X or Gen Y in astrology is referred to by Pluto in Leo, Virgo and Libra respectively. The Pluto in Leo generation that came of age in the 60s were the flower children of the 60s, the Me generation of the 70s, and the corporate raiders of the 80s. The “us vs them” mentality of that generation set the stage for change, but could never really get past the fight.
Plutos in Virgo and Libra were referred to as slackers, but the truth is the preceding generation spent very little time mentoring them and instead focused on their own growth opportunities, many which came by dismantling communities and social saftey nets, leaving the generations after them a big, bankrupt mess.
It’s pretty sad when watching the coverage of the US election, the references to Obama’s demographic, “young” people, 45 and under. This constant infantalisation of the Pluto in Virgo generation (Virgo is the sign of the maiden, the eternal Peter Pan) has kept this generation in a kind of holding pattern, where they can’t really achieve anything, yet they aren’t get any younger. Obama’s nomination really marks the Pluto in Virgo generation taking their long-deserved spot on the stage.
What is also interesting is how this shift dovetails with the American chart. Pluto is a very slow-moving planet, taking 250+ years to make one orbit. The USA is about to have it’s first Pluto return, a highly significant event. The last Pluto in Leo generation were the grandparents and parents of the American revolutionaries, who were the Pluto in Virgo, Libra and Scorpio generations. The true change is just around the corner.
Yesterday was a New Moon in Gemini (which is considered the ascendant of the US in some charts) conjunct Venus, a time for change, and a change with heart.
