“I was approaching 50, and I felt for a while it was weird for someone my age to work from obsessions from his teenage years. I wanted to cut that off and felt the movie might be a really good way to make an end to that whole period of teenage obsessions and, at the same time, make a new start, in working a bit more in film” (rather than his prior main occupation, photography).

Director Anton Corbijn made this comment recently on what propelled him to make the movie, Control(2007), about Ian Curtis and Joy Division. It was his obsession with Joy Division that originally prompted him to move to England to work as a photographer at NME.

His statement perfectly illustrates the wisdom and transition caused by the Chiron Return, one of the most important transits in astrology, and the last of the so-called “mid-age transits”. The Chiron Return happens around the age of 51. Even though we move into adulthood, many carry around psychological and cultural baggage from their childhood. The Chiron Return gives us the ability to finally free ourselves from our youthful obsessions and demons once and for all. We are then freed to live a life more tranquilly based on our own inner-compass. If you are reaching this age, creative projects are a great way to work through this energy. Read my earlier post, to see how Herge dealt with this transit through his book, Tintin in Tibet.

If you haven’t seen this movie, btw, you simply have to. It’s just been released on dvd, so no excuses :)
