Even though Paul McCartney and Heather Mills were born decades apart, their Junos are in incredibly close conjunction. Juno is the asteroid of marriage, and can often signify this in a chart. But marriage isn’t necessarily a happily-ever-after fairy tale, and Juno can also represent the shadow side of the female arch-type, particularly of the wife who gets her identity through her marriage as opposed to through her own acts, which plummets her into a world of control and jealousy.

Juno was the Roman equivalent of Hera, married to Jupiter/Zeus. Hera was thereby the most powerful woman in mythology, but in order to hold onto this power, which was a bestowed power as opposed to an owned power, she was taken to scheming, jealousy, and control games.

When the asteroid Juno has stressful aspects in the chart of couples, this same type of rapport could manifest itself. Between Heather and Paul, their conjunct Junos give them a very strong attraction, especially within the realm of marriage. However, this Juno is also in close square to Paul’s Pluto/Mars conjunction, which could poison the relationship over time with control games, power struggles, jealousy, arguments, and irrationality. Moreover, their Juno’s are conjunct in the possessive, intense sign of Scorpio which is ruled by Pluto. All this Plutonian energy can be quite destructive, and in fact, it truly transformed the image of Heather Mills in the press.

In the combined energy of their relationship, Mills lost her identity, even though she did so much good work for charity, it was all eclipsed by the negative manifestations of Juno and she was totally transformed in the eyes of the world into the almost stereotypical Hera-style wife (pick up some Greek mythology, and you will see what this means). With all the Pluto energy involved, it will be hard for Heather to go back and reclaim her prior image; it would be easier to morph into something completely different than before. Also, stressful Pluto-Juno aspects tend to linger as resentment long after the relationship has ended, making it difficult to move on.

Also it should be noted, that their Junos are conjunct in Paul’s house of money and possessions, indicating a relationship that was a little too focussed on the material side of stability and that his wealth and power was the attracting base of the partnership.
