As there is some Jupiter action today, I am giving two vibes for the price of one - both in honor of George Michael’s birthday! I love very early Wham: men in capri pants and leather jackets, singing about rebelling against the man through style and having a good time. I saw an interview with George Michael and he said that in those days they dressed themselves and worked out all the choreography for their act (including the famous TOTP vid below) in their bedroom. He said nowadays everything is so controlled, they would never let a new act do that - no wonder everything seems the same these days. Wham was a reaction against all the glum times of Thacherite Britain and the heavy politics in all the music, and saw the onset of the 80s glamour vibe like Dynasty, etc. This decade has been so politically fearful and culturally dull, it’s time for a change, let’s hope some creative fun is on the horizon.
