Fireside Chat : The Economy IS Going to Hell
Cats: newswatch|Being an astrologer, it allows you to know things long before other people catch on. For years now, while the world has been humming along merrily on credit and “growth”, astrologers have been harping on about how when Pluto entered Capricorn it would mark the end of the corporate era as we know it. Problem with astrology, though, it is teeming with hippies and worse, those poor souls who were born too late to be hippies and are forever bitter about it, and so there was also alot of talk among astrologers about how this era would be a great lovefest, because it would lead to the downfall of “the man”.
I, however, was born in the post hippie world, and unlike those hippies who got to do free love in their youth due to the social networks in place at the time and then later take full advantage of the market deregulation of the Reagan years to line their little pockets gold, my generation has never had it so easy. Even now, these hippie astrologers well into their 60s refuse to get off the stage and retire and aren’t the most welcoming or mentoring to the new astrologers on the block. But I digress (dont get me started on hippies!)…
Anyways, I have always looked at the Pluto in Capricorn with a certain trepidation, because if “the man” goes down, I am pretty sure that I will be going down before he does. The US economy does not do well in when Pluto transits a cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn). This can be due to the fact that the USA’s own Pluto is in Capricorn and Pluto squares and oppositions are some of the most painful around.
The period of Pluto in Aries saw financial crises in 1837 and 1847, the Pluto in Cancer years correspond to the Great Depression and Pluto in Libra was in the 1970s and that recession. So the Pluto in Cardinal Signs do correspond to the most painful times for the most part in the economic history of the USA, and there is no reason to doubt that it will not be the same with Pluto in Capricorn.
Pluto has been dancing in and out of Capricorn all year. It is presently on the Aries point, which is zero degrees of a Cardinal sign, in this case Capricorn. This is one of the most intense energy points in astrology. Pluto will finally move into Capricorn for good next month.
The fact that the Pluto return of the USA is on the cards, we can expect to see over the next 20-some years a painful transition to a completely new form of economy. Pluto is the planet of death and regeneration and most often involves quite a deal of pain, but what comes up after will be completely new and evolved. The USA may be forced to give up power, in order to transition to a new form of leadership and true control.
So that basically sucks for us, but does offer a lot of hope to future generations. I would predict that things will get worse, and unlike Suze Orman, who predicts the economy won’t fully rebound until 2015, I am going to take that to 2023, when Pluto next changes sign. These years will see a lot of economic failure and the need for a new, and more sensible approach, to material matters. We may also see changes to education, and the fact that an uneducated populace cannot really take care of itself in a free-market economy. There may be a more sensible approach when the government is forced to establish a new form of power in order to ensure the well-being of its citizens. Capricorn is the sign of the father figure. It may come as a welcome relief that the government take responsibility to provide a decent, fair society to its citizens. The era of low taxes and an economic free for all, may finally come to an end.
What about 2023? Pluto enters the sign of Aquarius, which rules democracy. I seriously believe that with the Pluto return of the USA during the upcoming years in Capricorn, we will come further to see that democracy without universal quality education is just a sham and impossible to govern itself, unless it is just another form of hidden dictatorship. The leaders refuse to invest in education, the people do not have the tools to make proper decisions, they vote in those leaders who deny them education based on non-issues, and so on and so on….
The poor quality of public (state) education and economic pain are most likely to be the two factors that really define the upcoming Pluto cycle.
PS The Pluto cycle we are leaving is Pluto in Sagittarius. Pluto rules religion and terrorism.
